Engaging in diversity and inclusion as a conscious practice requires one to be brave—to recognize one’s privilege, understand how systems of oppression operate in museums, and take responsibility for changing those systems. Such intentional work is necessary if museums are to maintain their relevance and to leverage their power to address social inequality in their communities.
