The stark announcement from the Mellon Foundation, AAMD and AAM that among museum curators, conservators, educators and leaders, only 4 percent are African American and 3 percent Hispanic, vibrated through the cultural community. We knew it was bad, but…? By 2025, African Americans and Hispanics will be 14 percent and 21 percent, respectively of the US population. With large segments of the population not represented in leadership, is there any doubt why U.S. museums have trouble attracting diverse visitors? In this session, you will hear from a panel with one goal: to address the not-so-secret formula for finding and retaining diverse museum staff.
