What happens when museums hire people who have experienced trauma to tell their own stories? What does it look like when the interpreter is discussing his or her own oppression, suffering, and loss? Leaders from four museums with such programs reflect on their successes and continuing challenges. Their projects focus on incarceration, labor practices, law enforcement, and the events of 9/11. You will have a chance to discuss the challenges and successes of each project, weigh in on the ethics surrounding these programs, and consider whether these institutions created a safe space for both staff and visitors.
