Three museum professionals with diverse backgrounds and experiences will explore how community-based museum work changes us personally, organizationally, and as a field. Using our own stories as a starting point, we will consider how substantive, and often personal, engagement with community members can transform the museum field, and the power, influence and responsibility it displays within its community. With you, we will examine whether certain encounters can be identified as touchpoints for change and explore how the field can better embrace these points in our practice, and what practices might hinder such growth.
