Museums have been a workplace home for women for more than a century. Women now make up 45 percent of the museum workforce and outnumber male counterparts in related graduate programs by a ratio of 8:2. Despite their numbers and accomplishments, many women grapple with pay inequity, glass ceilings, outright sexism and more. Using findings and women’s voices from their recent research, session presenters will explore the current state of gender equity in the field. You will work with your fellow attendees to identify strategies that advance a gender equity agenda through the collective action of individuals, museums, professional associations and graduate programs in an effort to affect change and create a more equitable workplace for all.
