In 2015, The US celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. How will trends relating to disability shape the next quarter century? We will need to address variation in cognitive abilities and create inclusive environments that reconsider physical and sensory space. In the long term, we may face profound shifts in how society views disability, how people with disabilities view themselves, and an increasingly fluid spectrum of ability/disability/enhanced abilities. In this session, you will explore potential futures made possible by huge leaps in technology—e.g. neurological interfaces, haptics and advanced prosthetics—and by the activism of individuals with disabilities who proudly claim a distinct culture and identity.
