Collections are the heart of small museums. However, most small museums lack the staff, funding or infrastructure required to make collections visible and accessible to the public. This session presents examples from small academic museums struggling with the practical challenges of creating exhibitions, educational programs, digitization projects and other forms of engagement with limited resources. You will learn about low-resource strategies and tools to develop collections-based programs that can be scaled or adapted to benefit museums of all types. The session concludes with an open discussion about the problems faced by small museums and brainstorming about achievable solutions to make under-resourced collections visible and accessible.
