Join us as we discuss “Recommendation on the Protection and Promotion of Museums and Collections”, initiated by the Brazilian Institute of Museums (IBRAM), which was approved at the recent UNESCO General Conference. It originated from the desire to extend existing standards and principles to all museums and their related roles and responsibilities. The text resulted from close cooperation with IBRAM, ICOM and heritage specialists from more than 80 countries. The recommendation is fundamentally important because it updates definitions, concepts and lexicons of museums and their role in contemporary society. Explore what this means to museum communities in the US, Brazil and Mexico, and learn how international museum communities can work together for change.
