Hear firsthand how the Cliveden historic site was affected by a new collections management policy at the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Since adopting the new policy in 2014 that included historic structures and landscapes as part of the collection, and which allowed for the use of disposition proceeds to be used for their direct care, the Trust’s Collections Committee has been tasked with reviewing requests from the Trust sites and deciding what constitutes the direct care of buildings and landscapes. Cliveden submitted the first requests under this change, and not all were approved. This session will tell the story of that process, what this policy change meant to the curator, collections manager, preservation director and architect at the Trust, and the potential impacts it has on the collection.
