Issues surrounding sustainability have become increasingly important for institutions, owing to challenges precipitated by natural disasters, restricted resources, increased loan and exhibition agendas, and extreme geographic climates. AAM’s Call to Action from the Summit on Sustainability Standards in Museums (2013) states that environmental sustainability “is perhaps the largest shared category … for museums to discuss as a field.” You will hear from a diverse group of specialists from AAM’s PIC Green professional network and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as they discuss sustainable climates for collecting institutions, address challenges and successes in implementing durable measures, and present new research in the field.
